Andy Warhol and WW1 Camouflage

My Andy Warhol lesson plan that had my class thinking about the advantages of camouflage first used WW1. Whilst this lesson was taking place I pulled aside four children at a time to work on a whole class artwork. Their task was to create camouflage that would help a soldier in WW1. They had to think about colour, texture and environment. I provided them with the paints but they had to mix the appropriate colours for themselves. We used the camouflage for our display:

Street art includes a variety of media and techniques, such as traditional spray-painted tags, stickers, stencils, posters, photocopies, murals, paper cut-outs, mosaics, street installations, performances, and video projections. At is heart it represents the desire of humans to leave traces of their existence in a public arena. Street art deals with many tough issues facing the world and allows artists such as Bansky to exhibit their work in a much wider arena than traditional art forms. Street art can engage pupils in critical dialogue about art and set a platform for them to explore the issues it raises.

Technology

Technology for Primary School Children

Children need to be able to solve problems and then use the skills learned in future projects across the curriculum. The ‘making’ should not be the main concern, irrespective of age children should be encouraged to explore tools and materials before tackling design work.

Shadow Theatre

Autumn is well underway and with Winter fast approaching the darker nights and changing environment provides us teachers with valuable opportunities for taking the children outdoors. I firmly believe that the natural environment should act as a canvas for lessons or as a stimulus for exploring the curriculum.

Considering the above, this entry shall focus on a cross curricular approach to Art, Drama and Literacy. It was inspired from a class on Line Drawings where I experimented with creating lines in shadows.

Line Drawings

Middle Primary

Show various styles of line drawings and ask the children to describe what they see. Encourage their dialogue to increase their vocabulary in an engaged discussion. As a teacher guide the child’s learning eg. Van Gogh and his lines to show movement in his work etc.
